When I asked Caty to tell me the story of her and Steven's engagement she didn't hold back and I am so glad she didn't. It is one of the sweetest and most thoughtful engagements I have heard to date.
Caty had made a trip to the beach with 16 of her family members minus Steven because he couldn't get off work. It was the day before they were to leave,so they were "going out to eat" one last time. Her two little sisters had made the trip down with their stepfather, who ended up having to go home early, and ended up taking half of their stuff with him. So needless to say, she had clothes to ride home in, along with a T-shirt dress in case they went out to eat again the last night. [Side note: The 16 of them had ridden down in 3 vehicles and only one other person went back with her stepdad, so she was trying to figure out how in the world they were all going to make it back home anyways (14 people in 2 vehicles??)]
Anyways, with it being their last full day, she was trying to absorb all of the beach life that she could! They had done family pictures the night before, so she really wasn't concerned with fixing her hair or anything; so her plan was just to rinse off and go with it. She didn't realize it at the time, but her aunt and cousin kept trying to get her to take a shower and fix her hair, but she wasn't picking up on the hints. She ended up asking one of her cousins if she would curl her hair so she could wear it in a pony and when she was in the process of doing that (like half of her hair was in a knot on top of my head, and half of it down and curled) when everyone started shouting from the balcony "Oh my goodness, I can't believe that!" "What in the world?" So of course she had to go out on the balcony and see what all the fuss was about. With everyone on the balcony when she walked out, she looked over the edge and saw written in the sand with pink color powder "Caty, will you marry me?" and made out a person standing just next to it. She said she was so dumbfounded and couldn't even process what was happening for the longest time. But that's not all, as she stood there with her hand covering her face she heard, "Hey bud". To her surprise she turned around and was immediately hugged by her best friend, Edie. So they all headed towards the elevator and crammed in and went down to the beach. Caty said, "It felt like slow motion, but looking back at the videos, I was all but running to him." He got down on his knee and proposed officially with her standing there. All of the balconies were full of people and they were all cheering, people on the beach were doing the same, a four wheeler came by with two lifeguards on it, and they both fist pumped! ISN'T THIS THE CUTEST THING YOU HAVE EVER HEARD?!
We are so excited for the two of you!
